Remarks from a satisfied client:
‘A long week end at the lake, not only relaxation but also good food’
By chance we came to know the Rodella family’s cozy hotel for the first time in the eighties when we wanted to cut the long journey from München to Siena and find a place for a couple of nights on Lake Garda.
We found the place so nice that we decided to go back for a longer stay the same year during the month of October. Since than we have been back every year, sometimes even twice a year. Through the years we have selected a range of interesting sites and restaurants where we like to go back to and that are also owned by typical Italian families.
We like to leave on Wednesday night to reach Limone on a Thursday morning, this also to avoid the weekend traffic but also because we enjoy arriving for breakfast, sit on the terrace and admire the beauty of the lake. Breakfast is the favorite moment of our holiday about which we think all year round, the good brewed filter coffee, Laura’s home made sweets.
My wife loves the home made jam, the good quality of the yogurt and the rich variety of seeds, while I prefer savouries and love Italian salami and ham and the home made pate de foie.
After breakfast on Thursday we go to the usual Toscolano market, rich in vegetables, all sorts of local cheeses such as Bagoss, Tombea and the Tremosine. This market usually has fish and honey too. On the way back we stop at Chimini’s garden center with the nice terracotta flower pots and plants, the temptation to buy some is very strong, but we are too tired now. We need to go back ‘home’ to our hotel and snooze under the olive trees. My wife will certainly get her usual massage from Claudia, the home trainer and masseuse.
We do not take half board at the hotel, although all our friends usually do.The food is excellent, but we like a change every day, so tonight we will go to la ‘Cantina del Bafo’ Restaurant
which has a sophisticated cuisine, it is nice to be spoilt once in a while, or to Dalco’s restaurant as they have live music on a Thursday. There is always something new in Limone and just ask Marco or Carlo, they know about the season’s new entry. We enjoy staying in the hotel as is not far from the city center which you can reachon foot, sometimes we rent a bike to have a trip in the mountains. With the bike we have fun reaching Vesio in Tremosine to the Alpe del Garda or some farms with restaurants such as Nai and Val da Goi. In Tremosine you get simple local cuisine with good grilled meat, polenta and spiedo, typical of western Lake Garda.
Amazing is also the restaurant Val di Brasa which is located on the panoramic Tremosine cleft and it is worth going there at night as the cleft is lit .It is rather spooky and you should not miss if you come to this part of the lake. In Tremosine it is worth stopping at the Vivaio Villa Verde, a garden center which often organizes concerts and art exhibitions. On Saturday we prefer Limone’s lake shore, there are some nice restaurants such as Monte Baldo and Ristorante Gemma where you can get good local fish and good pasta. Unfortunately we already have to prepare for our journey back home, which is going to take place on Sunday this time, we buy some olive oil from the Rodella family and bio Chiaretto wine from Cascina Belmonte, may be we will get Rodella’s home made jam too.
We like the Hotel Riviera in Limone for many reasons, first of all the location is beautiful, there is a lot of space and the garden is very artistic, there are paintings and mosaics scattered all over the place, but something which is difficult to explain is the family atmosphere you breath here which makes you feel at home and welcomed, it is unique and incomparable. We go home happy as we know we will soon come back in our second home.
